“Specialist depth. Senior advisory. Sustained engagement.”
At the centre of the work is a framework we call the Biological Operating System, or BOS: the lens Clarent uses to look at how a leader actually performs. Not just what they are thinking, but how they are deciding under load, and the physiological architecture that determines how much they have to draw on when the pressure has been sustained for months. Three connected layers: business context, psychological and behavioural, physiological. Most advisory works at one. A few work at two. Clarent is built to work across all three.
The work is personal and commercially grounded. It is led by a senior advisor who understands the substance: how cognitive load compounds before anyone notices, why recovery architecture matters more than stress management, what happens to decision quality at 4pm when the intensity has been on for months. No delegated team. No methodology pushed from the top down. Advisory that meets each leader in their own situation, with tools and a lens built for exactly this kind of work.
Clarent is built for sustained engagements rather than one-off encounters. Context builds. Trust compounds. The work gets more valuable as the relationship runs, because the advisor truly understands the business, the person, and the situation as they evolve together.
When a leader operates at the top of their game, and can keep operating there, the decisions they make land better, the teams they build hold stronger, and the businesses they scale stay resilient. That connection is the foundation Clarent is built on, and what the work is designed to protect.
Carl Buik, Founding Principal

Carl Buik founded Clarent because of something he noticed: first in himself, and then in almost every founder and leader he worked with.
The people building and scaling businesses are among the most driven and capable people in any room. Their dedication and passion are what got them where they are. But those same qualities (the inability to switch off, the relentless commitment, the refusal to slow down) are also what make sustained high performance a genuine discipline, not something that takes care of itself. The line between operating at the highest level and pushing past what's sustainable is hard to see from the inside, precisely because the drive that carries you there is the same drive that makes you feel invincible.
Carl knows this because he has lived it. He has built his own ventures, helped others build theirs, and worked across borders on projects spanning Australia, Canada, Europe, and the US. His background sits at the intersection of commercial strategy and performance science, a combination that shapes how he thinks about leadership, decision quality, and what it takes to sustain at the highest level. But it was his own experience of pushing past what was sustainable that gave him the sharpest insight of all: that how a leader functions isn't separate from how a business performs. It is the foundation.
That conviction is what Clarent is built on. A specialist practice working across the three layers that shape how a leader actually performs: business context, psychological and behavioural patterns, and the physiological foundations underneath. 1:1, sustained, and grounded in the same commercial reality the client lives in. A firm built on the belief that when a leader operates at the top of their game, and can keep operating there, everything else follows.
Clarent is building a team of senior advisors, each bringing genuine experience in how leaders perform, and a shared commitment to the kind of advisory that develops over time.
The firm is deliberately growing with people who have done the work, not just studied it. People who understand the demands of scaling leadership because they have lived near them. People who believe, as Clarent does, that the best advisory happens alongside the client, with the rigour, discretion, and depth the work calls for.
If that sounds like you, we’d welcome a conversation.
