HUMAN PERFORMANCE

Specialist 1:1 advisory for founders and growth-stage CEOs performing under sustained high-stakes pressure.

Beyond traditional executive coaching. Beyond workplace wellbeing. The specialist practice working at the biological foundations of how leaders think, decide, and sustain at the highest level.

THE APPROACH

Three layers. Most advisory covers one or two.

How a leader performs under sustained pressure is shaped by three layers, working together. Address one in isolation and the gains stall. Work across all three and they reinforce one another.

Business context.

The environment you operate in: stage, capital, team, market, stakeholders. This is what the advisory is made relevant to. Without it, you get frameworks; with it, you get judgement.

Psychological and behavioural.

Decision patterns. Cognitive habits. Stress responses. Identity under load. How you actually think and decide when the pressure has been on for months.

Physiological.

Energy architecture. Recovery systems. Cognitive load under fatigue. The early signals that shift first when capacity starts to drift. This is the layer that determines how much the layers above can actually draw on when the pressure is sustained.

Most coaching works with the psychological layer. Most wellbeing works with parts of the physiological. Most generalist advisory works with the business context. The compounding gains come from working across all three together, and in how they strengthen one another. This is the practice Clarent is built around.

THE METHODOLOGY

The Biological Operating System

Four layers. Together, they describe and shape how a leader performs under load.

Energy Architecture.

Your capacity for everything else (strategy, decisions, intensity, relationships) is built on the physiological systems underneath. Sleep, recovery, stress load, circadian rhythm. When these drift, capacity drops before anyone notices. Working at this layer is how capacity is protected, expanded, and held under pressure.

Decision Architecture.

The business runs on the quality of your decisions. Under sustained pressure, the frames and habits you decide through narrow without you noticing. Working at this layer keeps the sharpness visible and compounds the quality of every decision that flows from it.

Signal.

The system tells you long before it breaks. The signals are subtle, and the instinct is to push through. Learning to read them, in yourself, turns late-stage recovery into early-stage adjustment, and protects the momentum you have built.

Transition Readiness.

A scaling business moves between intensity phases: fundraise, launch, crisis, recovery, exit. The leaders who perform through every one are the ones who can shift gears between them. This is the layer that keeps you ready, so each transition adds to the trajectory rather than costing ground.

THE ENGAGEMENT

How working with Clarent looks

1

Exploration Call.

45 minutes. Private. No obligation. A conversation about your situation: the load you are carrying, what is working, what has been less easy to name. We explore how Clarent Human Performance could help, and what entry point would make sense for you.

2

Diagnostic.

A structured look at where the load is showing. Depending on what the Exploration Call surfaces, this may focus on a specific layer (energy architecture, decision architecture, early-warning signals, or transition readiness) or take the form of a full diagnostic across all four. The diagnostic becomes the baseline the advisory is built on, and the reference point we return to as the engagement unfolds.

3

Engagement.

The core engagement. Six months, 1:1, shaped around your situation as it evolves. Two forms:

The Sustained Engagement : for leaders working on performance through the accumulated load of scaling.

The High-Stakes Engagement : for leaders working through a defined acute phase: a fundraise, a launch, a restructure, a crisis, an exit.

4

Continuing Advisory.

The ongoing engagement for leaders who have come through a Sustained or High-Stakes Engagement and want the advisory relationship to continue. Context compounds. The value builds as the relationship deepens.

WHO IT IS FOR

Founders and growth-stage CEOs carrying the kind of load where the cost of the wrong call is high.

Scale stage.

Your decisions materially shape outcomes. Complexity is real. Consequences are visible in weeks, not quarters.

High-stakes load.

A fundraise. An expansion. A major hire. A restructure. An exit. A market shock. Or the accumulated weight of compounding decisions over months and years.

Sustained intensity.

Not a one-off crisis. Load carried long enough that you have forgotten what it feels like to operate without it.

You have already done the hard part, the part that got the business to where it is. Working on how you sustain at this altitude, and through the phases still ahead, is not stepping back. It is the move leaders who build durably tend to make sooner rather than later. This is the practice built for that work.

THE BOUNDARIES

What this is not

Not generalist executive coaching. The work is specialist advisory shaped around your specific situation, not coaching structured around behaviour frameworks, mindset exercises, or personal development plans.

Not therapy. Not a clinical practice. We do not diagnose or treat clinical conditions. When a clinical presentation emerges, we say so and point you to the right kind of help.

Not corporate wellbeing. Not an EAP. Not a workplace programme. This is 1:1 advisory for the individual leader, not a service for the workforce.

Not generalist advisory. Clarent does not work on strategy, operations, product, or market entry; it works alongside the advisors who do, focused specifically on how the leader at the top performs.

Not a group programme. No cohorts. No masterminds. No peer-group format. 1:1 only.

These boundaries are deliberate. They are what ensures every client gets the benefit of specialist depth. If the situation calls for something on this list, we will say so.

THE PATTERN

What the research says about leaders under load

0%

of VC-backed founders report some deterioration in their personal wellbeing.

Balderton Capital Founder Wellbeing Report, 2024 (n=128).

0%

of founders report a mental health impact from their role; 81% do not openly share it.

Startup Snapshot Founder Mental Health Report, 2023/24 (n=800+).

0%

of founders agree excessive stress impairs their decision-making.

Balderton Capital Founder Wellbeing Report, 2024.

0.0×

burned-out leaders are 3.5× more likely to leave their role.

DDI Global Leadership Forecast, 2025 (10,000+ leaders).

The statistics are not the reason to engage. The reason is that these are averages, and averages hide the variance that matters most: which specific leader, in which specific context, with which specific load profile, is starting to drift. The work is to see the drift in you, not the pattern in the cohort.
